PRESS RELEASE
COOLSTUFF
20 April -15 May 2010
34FineArt’s first group show for 2010 opens in their thrilling new
gallery space in Buchanan Square, Woodstock, on Tuesday 20 April at
18h34.
The title COOLSTUFF refers to the new interior, designed by
architectural firm Design-360 Cape Town, as much as to the works on
show. Unconventional and technologically advanced, the gallery provides
a welcoming environment combined with razor sharp efficiency.
COOLSTUFF is a selection of works from 34FineArt’s
Coolstuff desktop folder, where spectacular images, representing some
of the latest and coolest trends brewing in contemporary art, tend to
accumulate. To name a few: first works from Asha Zero’s studio after
his sold-out 2009 exhibition; brand new low-edition graphics by Takashi
Murakami; exciting new work by Faith47 and Chinese artist Liu Fenghua,
gems by gallery stalwarts like Willie Bester, Robert Hodgins, Norman
Catherine and William Kentridge.
Judging from results achieved at this year’s January sales at major
international auction houses, art markets worldwide are emerging
strongly from what has turned out to be a relatively short-lived
recession. Eighteen months down the line, major works are once again
flowing into auction rooms and collectors are there, ready and able.
Results are increasingly impressive, exceeding pre-sale estimates by
astounding margins, in some cases trebling totals of the same period
last year.
With prices going up again, now might be the coolest time ever to
revisit your wish list. Artists are rejuvenating the market place with
new vigour by releasing exciting new works. Upward phases are always
best caught early, before everybody cottons on and curves become
steeper. COOLSTUFF will not disappoint you!
